Pool Chemistry App

Mobile Design

Background

I lead the UX design for the Leslie's Pool Supply mobile app which allows pool owners to manage their pool chemistry. The ultimate goal of the project was to help people get more enjoyment out of their pools by reducing the effort required to balance and maintain water chemistry.

UX Research

We used various research methods to inform our designs such as subject matter experts, on-site store visits, and competitive analysis.

We gathered information from store clerks about customer pain points. Several pain points were identified including excessive waiting time at the register and difficulty remembering rewards credentials in order to redeem points.

I also looked at some competitors such as Clorox and Home Depot's pool app. We assessed their UI structure, user flows, and aesthetics.

I spoke to subject matter experts in order to inform the information architecture and layout hierarchy.

UX Design

I used Axure to create flow diagrams for every major user flow, as well as wire-frames for each screen. I included notes for developers and visual designers. Overall the client is very happy with our work and the app has over 2000 ratings with a 4.6 star average. Not bad for an MVP.

Visual Design

I worked closely with visual designers to translate the wire frames into high-fidelity mockups. However, I have since gone back and reimagined what Leslie's app would look like with my aesthetic. The following are constraints I worked with:

Branding: I didn't change the Leslie's logo or colors. Iconography: I kept the icons our visual designer created. UX: I didn't make any UX improvements.
