Divvy Money Manager

Mobile Design, Web Design

Background

I've always found financial matters frustrating, whether it's navigating my bank's overly complex interface, or just trying to save money. I wanted a way to keep track of goals. Thus Divvy was a goal-setting financial app that enabled people to divvy up their account balance into short and long-term savings goals.

UX Research

In order to explore people's mental model around saving money, I conducted user-research by talking to people and sending surveys. I found that people were doing things that suggested Divvy would be useful (e.g. opening multiple bank accounts to keep funds divided). I also did a competitive analysis against Mvelopes, Mint, Acorns, and Level Money.

UX Design

Originally I hacked together an Android app. It was a prototype that parsed balance and transaction info from my bank via SMS. I could then create goals and assign money to them.

I used this prototype myself for a few months. Eventually I found a developer and began wire framing and prototyping a more refined solution. The final app was released in beta on Android, but due to lack of time I walked away from the project.

Visual Design

I was responsible for all branding, visual design, and marketing for Divvy.
